The Department of Passports and Immigration has started taking steps to address the issue of delay in issuance of new passports.
According to sources, Passports and Immigration authorities have decided to purchase 20 laminators and 20 printers. With modern printers and laminators, the printing capacity will increase from 22,000 to 55,000 per day.

Sources say that the passport authorities have ordered stock of lamination papers for the next 6 months.
It is hoped that this decision will start clearing the backlog by the last week of September.
