Decision to sell land of government universities challenged

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s decision to sell land of public universities has been challenged in court.

The issue of sale of government university land by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government by the provincial president of the People’s Party Muhammad Ali Shah was challenged in the Peshawar High Court.

Secretary Higher Education, Secretary Finance, Vice Chancellors of Universities have been made parties in the petition filed in the court. In the petition filed in the court, it has been argued that the government does not have the authority to sell the land of the universities.

It was argued in the application that buildings for institutions have been erected on the land which is going to be sold.

Thousands of acres of land were acquired for educational institutions and other purposes. The government wants to sell the land of public universities instead of reducing its expenditure.

The petition has requested that the Peshawar High Court order to stop the possible sale of thousands of acres of land.
