Third round of talks between JI and govt to be held tonight

The deadlock over the Islamabad sit-in, which had persisted for the past six days, has ended with the announcement of a third round of talks between the negotiating committees of Jamaat-e-Islami and the government, scheduled for 10:30pm tonight.

According to Express NewsJamaat-e-Islami confirmed that the deadlock with the government has been resolved, and the third round of negotiations will take place at the Rawalpindi Commissioner’s office.

JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman had announced a march in Islamabad on August 8, sit-ins in Lahore and Peshawar on 11 and 12 August, and a shutter-down strike on August 14 during the deadlock in negotiations with the government.

Negotiations between the two parties had been stalled since August 1. The six-day impasse will conclude tonight with the meeting between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami committees at the Rawalpindi Commissioner’s office.

Jamaat-e-Islami sources confirmed the scheduled talks at 10:30pm at the Commissioner’s office.

Earlier, sources had reported that Jamaat-e-Islami was informed by the government about the negotiations. The first round of talks was held on July 28 and the second on July 31, but neither resulted in any progress, maintaining the deadlock for the past six days.
