India’s national security interests were also damaged, former Indian Home Secretary

New Delhi: Former Foreign Secretary of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla has said that Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has an important role in the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s government in Bangladesh. The national security interests of Bangladesh and India were also harmed.

According to a foreign news agency, former Indian Foreign Secretary and former High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan said that the Bangladeshi people, especially the youth, are expressing their frustration by coming to the streets against Hasina Wajid’s government.

He said that the bad economic situation has played an important role in the current situation of Bangladesh. Opposition parties BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami also contributed there.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that the fundamentalist and pro-Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami was very active during this protest. It demonstrated its power on the streets and led to an element of violence in the protests.

He said that external forces cannot be ignored in the current situation. Due to which the national security interests of Bangladesh and India have also been damaged.

On the question of damage to India’s national interests, he said that it will have adverse effects on us. We had good relations with Sheikh Hasina. The upcoming elections in Bangladesh may result in radical parties coming to power.

On the question of Sheikh Hasina Wajid being given political asylum in India, the former Indian Foreign Secretary said that Sheikh Hasina was in India from 1975 to 1979 after the assassination of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. India has never denied shelter to its neighbours.
