JI’s protest against KE, IPPs, inflation continues

KARACHI:

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi has staged a sit-in protest outside the Governor’s House, demanding the withdrawal of agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), cancellation of K-Electric’s licence, revision of the tax regime, and reduction of inflation.

Participants from across the city rallied from Khizra Masjid to the Governor’s House, with thousands of residents joining the protest.

They carried placards and chanted slogans against the government, IPPs, and contributors to rising inflation.

JI Karachi Ameer Munem Zafar stated that this sit-in is a continuation of the Rawalpindi protest and will continue until all demands are met. He criticised the government for misleading the public about IPP capacity charges, highlighting that some IPPs are receiving huge amounts despite minimal electricity generation.

Zafar also called for a forensic audit of KE and IPPs.

He accused ruling parties of colluding with KE for resource exploitation and vowed that JI’s protest will continue until citizens get their due rights.
