Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman has said that the government is whitelisting VPNs after which unauthorized VPNs will not be able to run in Pakistan.
Chairman PTA gave a briefing on Internet and telecommunication issues in the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet meeting. He said VPNs could be blocked across the country, but doing so would hurt businesses.
Hafeezur Rehman said that despite VPN, the number of X users in Pakistan has decreased by 70%. Only 30 percent of users are using X via VPN.
The 5G auction in the country is likely to be held in March-April, PTA said
He said that on the day the government says, X will open on the same day, X has acted on the PTA complaint only 7% in the last 3 months. On complaints related to social media, the respective platforms are contacted.
Chairman PTA further said that if any post is against the laws of Pakistan, we close the social media platform on the request of the government. Most tiktok take action on our complaint, least implement x.
